| Advocacy Work Group - CLASP |
|
Becky Gaskin is the project worker for this group.
A few years ago, we wanted to set up a really good advocacy work group, so some people got together and started CLASP. CLASP stands for Caring and Listening And Supporting Partnership. There are loads of things that CLASP have on their action plan, but the most important thing is helping people speak up for their rights!
CLASP is mostly made up of members with a learning disability and they meet once every 2 weeks to talk things that are important to them. CLASP bring ideas to our Partnership Board Workshops, and also give feedback at our Big Meetings.
CLASP run a coffee morning at the Bradbury Centre on Rose Street, Wokingham. It is from 10am - 12 noon every Tuesday and gives people the chance to come and meet friends and have a chat. There are also some laptops available so people with a learning disability can have support to use a computer.
One of the things that the CLASP members are keen on starting is a social evening once every 2 months. If you would like details on what is going on and when, please ring Becky Gaskin on tel: 0778 0749453.
CLASP have just got new offices at the Methodist Church in Rose Street, Wokingham. The offices are on the first floor above the church, and there is a stair lift to make it more accessible.
CLASP always welcomes new members, so if you are interested in joining the group and making new friends, please contact Becky Gaskin on tel: 0778 0749453, or e-mail: clasp24@aol.co.uk. Membership costs £5 and includes a free t-shirt and pen.
